Displace—to move or put out of the usual or proper place.
It is not unusual to go through seasons where we feel displaced. For instance, when we’ve relocated; whether in a job, or a home, or a town, or a state, or even another country. But sometimes displacement comes from putting other things before God and oftentimes it is unintentional. We move from one situation to another trying to shake the feeling of displacement only to find it has an even tighter hold on us. When God has His proper place in our lives, there is often contentment even when in the natural there shouldn’t be.
When we fix our attention on what God treasures instead of what the world treasures, we begin to see what truly matters. I want to know my Father so well that I recognize what He wants from me and quickly respond to it. I’ve noticed through the years how opposite our culture and our God truly are. When I try to live up to what culture expects of me I begin to feel like I don’t measure up. Our culture will begin to drag us down to its level of immaturity if we allow it to. But God is never like that. He doesn’t compare. He develops. God brings out the best in all of us. And we mature like never before!
The best antidote for feeling displaced is to find our place in Him!
