Broken Heart

“Broken Heart” by Christian
romantic author Rhonda Kulczyk

“It takes a strong heart to love, but it takes an even stronger heart to love again after it’s been broken.”

Broken. There are defining moments in life. Moments that change the very essence of who you are. Moments you wish you could relive. The day I lost my brother was one of those moments. His beautiful life stolen from him, and I was responsible.

Forgive yourself, people would say.

Forgive myself? How could I? I was alive and he was not.

It was a question that plagued my mind day after day. Forgive myself for a terrible decision? Forgive myself for not understanding the ramifications of a wrong choice?

My neighbor Gloria once said, “You can’t reach what’s in front of you, Gracie Watts, until you let go of what’s behind you.” And she was right. In the end, I’ve come to learn that life is full of experiences. Experiences of triumph and devastating loss. And yet each one of these experiences are vital lessons. Letting go isn’t about forgetting. It’s about learning and moving on. It’s making a choice to be strengthened by my past , instead of strangled by it. Perhaps strength doesn’t reside in never having been broken, but in the courage to grow strong in the broken places.
